Protect your Fence from the Wind

When our wooden fences are exposed to prolonged high winds and inclement weather, wearing can start to occur. This time of year, it’s worth making sure your fence has fared well throughout the winter and taking care of any needed repairs. Here are a few useful tips to help you protect your fence from the wind!

Protect your Fence From the Wind & Observe the Trees

Most of the windy winter is behind us. How did your trees fare? If any branches are overhanging near your fence, you should be sure to remove them to reduce the risk of fencing damage. All it could take is one strong gust of wind to catch a tree just right and shake one of its limbs loose! You should pay attention to your trees throughout the year as they sprout with new life and their limbs bear more weight as a result. A tree that looks fine now may become a risk in just a few short weeks!

Remove Larger Objects from the Yard

It’s safe to say that your lawnmower isn’t going to get blown into your fence any time soon, but there are a few yard objects that could be relocated if a strong enough gust comes by. For example, you should be sure that your patio furniture and potted plants have no risk of colliding with your fence, as they could cause potentially unsightly damage that you’ll need to repair right away. Even your fence door or gate could be considered a risk if not secured. A gust of wind could abruptly swing it open, damage anything in its path and potentially rebound off the fence itself.

Fix All Loose Areas

Are you noticing any loosening around your fence? Loose posts, panels and boards are much more prone to wind damage, so taking care of these issues with a minor repair before disaster strikes is always our best recommendation.
