As you’re getting ready for the holidays this year, don’t forget to add a little festivity to your windows! Often overlooked, this is one of the most visible parts of your home—both inside and out. Take advantage of this opportunity to add little details that will seriously enhance your curb appeal this holiday season.
Go for the Classic Look
You know the one we’re talking about. The picture-perfect house with a single candle burning in each window. It’s classic for a reason! Although somewhat understated by today’s standards, it’s an easy and effortless decoration that you can leave up through the winter. Add a little garland underneath your candle for a touch of color and maybe even some festive ribbon, if you’re feeling crafty. Instead of a traditional candle, though, we recommend using an electronic variety that’s a little safer during this dry season. You can feature a different style candle in each window or go for the long, tapered versions in all of your front-facing openings. As you set up, look for drafts, gaps, or other issues we may want to address this winter.
Repurpose Other Decorations
Are your gifts overflowing from under the tree? Do you have too many ornaments to properly display? Why not move some of these common decorations to your windows? While it’s not the traditional placement for such holiday items, it is a great way to repurpose things you already have. Plus, you can draw extra attention to your favorites by putting them in such a visible part of the home! Imagine stacking a few (smaller) presents around the outline of your windows. Or hanging a trio of oversized ornaments directly in front of the glass. These tiny touches can do a lot to improve your curb appeal—if done correctly.
Create a Cozy Space
Many holiday decorations are more about form than function, but ‘tis the season to stay warm! So pile up the cushions, blankets, and pillows with a festive twist. We like a variety of patterns, textures, and sizes. All while trying to stay within the same classic color schemes of red, green, gold, silver, and white. The best part about using these to decorate is that when you get cold, you’ve got plenty of warming accessories close by. No matter what room you’re in! These cozy touches work especially well in large bay windows, but you can really use them to highlight any style (provided there’s a sill).
However you choose to decorate your windows this year, we just want to make sure you don’t leave them out! All of these options are easy and inexpensive, but there are plenty more where that came from. If you notice that your windows are looking a little shabby as you try to highlight them for the holidays, give us a call! We’re happy to help you with repairs and replacements, no matter what the season.
