Decorate without Damage
Now that it’s officially fall, it’s time to decorate! With more holidays right around the corner, you don’t want to leave a bunch of holes behind or a huge mess to clean up, though. Fortunately, there are plenty of solutions out there whether you live in a dorm room, an apartment, or you’re particular about your house. Read on to see some of our latest suggestions for how to Decorate without Damage.
Hanging Décor
Lightweight paper crafts are an easy way to welcome the new season. You can purchase premade items or flex your crafting skills, just so long as you don’t make anything too heavy. With small items like painted leaves strung up on ribbons, you can easily place them around the house (inside or outside) without requiring any holes! Banners are the same way, though you may have to be more strategic about placement. You can even incorporate strings of lights this way. They make wire options now that can wrap around virtually any surface and be easily moved when you’re ready for the next holiday.
Fun Fabrics
This is another great way to bring a touch of autumn home with you! Swap out your indoor and outdoor pillows for a fall-friendly pattern with a darker color palette. Don’t forget to add some lush throws to keep your guests warm, too! (Once it starts to cool down, at least.) Welcome mats and rugs can also be changed for the season. Think of leafy patterns, contrasts of warm tones like mustard yellow, maroon, and mahogany with cool greens, navy blues, and greys. You can buy new ones specifically for this fall, or just create the right color scheme with pieces you’re likely to reuse! There are many ways to invoke the feeling of autumn without plastering pumpkins everywhere.
Pots and Pans
…Or vases and urns. Maybe crates and bottles? Whatever containers you prefer, put them on display this fall and add some flora and fauna for good measure. Pots of colorful mums, bowls with foraged leaves, and wooden crates filled with gourds will have your home looking—and smelling—like autumn in no time. Try to go with items in a neutral color palette, so you can easily transition them to the next season when the time comes. Plus, you’ll have plenty of color inside. If/when your live decorations start to wilt, you can always dump them out and add more. No holes, no dents, no damage of any kind required!
All of these suggestions should work for you whether you’re trying to make your deck, porch, patio, or living room more festive!
